NEW - Network Based Label Printer
For several years, we have been selling various models of Brother Label printers and we have also provided support with the creation of labels. As computer technology has moved back to server based systems, we have been asked many times to come up with a network based label printer. Some customers have tried sharing these printers from a single machine, but they often do not work properly and had a limit of two printers that could be configured.
With this package we have solved many of the problems related to using these printers with MET/CAL, MET/TRACK, and other OTS Software. Below are a few pictures of the network printers:
 
Here are some answers to common questions.
(1) Is this a true network label printer?
Ans: Yes, it plugs into your network using a standard RJ45 connector.
(2) How is the printer addressed? Do you use TCPIP?
Ans: We use TCPIP to configure the printer for a specific address. There is a special print server in the package that handles all of the communication and error handling. At this time, we will only guarantee the printer will work properly using static IP addresses. In other words, your IT department will have to assign each printer its own dedicated IP address. They will also need the Subnet and Gateway address. It is not possible to use DHCP at this time. If your IT department will provide you with the IP addresses at the time of the order, we can set up the addresses for each printer before they are shipped.
(3) What are the power requirements?
Ans: This package will operate on any standard power system worldwide.
Voltage inputs are 100-240V at 50-60Hz. All you need is a PC style power cord. We have packaged everything inside and there are no messy power bricks or power cords to deal with.
(4) How many label printers can I put on the network?
Ans: As yet we have not found a limit to the number of label printers you can use as long as you follow our instructions. The standard printer driver originally allowed 2 printers to be configured per station. You will have to install the printer drivers in the same way for each computer that is using the network printers so that the reports will operate properly. This is explained in detail in the supplied documentation.
 
Get a Package Deal and Save Money
Purchase a package of 3,4 or 5 printers (or tell us how many you will need) and we will include a switch/hub so that you only need one network drop. Because the printers are not high bandwidth devices, it is usually acceptable to most IT departments to allow the use of a switch/hub. We will also provide custom network cables cut to length (up to 10 feet) between the hub and the printers. Everything will look nice and neat. This means that you can have printers set up with specific tape cartridge sizes. For example, you may might want to purchase a 3 pack, with one printer using a 1/2 inch label, a second printer using a 3/4 inch label, and the third printer using a yellow 3/4 inch label for limited calibration.
(5) The previous printer driver would not allow me to set the label
length in Crystal Reports. Will I be able to with these network printers?
Ans: We have come up with a procedure that allows the label setup parameters to be stored in the Crystal Report so that there is no need to define a default label length.
(6) I have an existing Brother 9500 printer. Can I make it work on the network?
Ans: We offer upgrades to existing 9500 printers. The customer will have to send in their existing printer and power supply to us and we will package everything together. The customer will have to modify their existing reports to use the new configuration. This package is available as 3100-NETWORK-UPG.
(7) What happens if there is an error during printing or if the wrong cartridge is installed in the printer?
Ans: This package is configured to report the errors back to the station that initiated the print job. For example, if you try to print to a printer with a 1/2 inch cartridge and the report calls for a 3/4 inch cartridge, then the error will be displayed on the screen of the station that initiated the print job
(8) I have a 9200 Brother printer. Is there support for it?
Ans: We do not offer support for networking the 9200 models.
(9) Will you be selling these printers outside of the United States?
Ans: On Time Support plans to sell these printer packages worldwide after Jan 1, 2007. We are working on obtaining a CE mark.
(10) Who packaged the Network Label Printer?
Ans: The network label printer system is packaged and put together by On Time Support.
(11) what comes with the Network Label Printer?
Ans: We provide the Network Label Printer system (Fully Tested), a manual with easy to follow illustrations, and a CD with the printer drivers. The manual includes a step by step instruction for network installation and creating calibration labels.
